I was clearly too busy having fun without you

Ok, so I didn't blog from Chicago. I meant to, but then I got there and I was all intimidated and stuff by the uber-hip hotel that we stayed at, and then we went to McDs first thing and I realized that the hotel was a huge, huge mistake, and then we started rushing around the city having fun by the bucketfuls with lots of blogging buddies, and now it's Sunday night and we are home. Hoo boy I have gathered lots of good blogging fodder including previously mentioned hotel full of the ultra chic (and then us), a frightening visit to a marketing idea gone so wild that I was very, very afraid, and falling in love with a bottle of water. But I am too tired tonight.

So I decided to post some quick photos instead because I finally have one of Z. looking half decent in her glasses and because we really did miss you.

Z looks wonderful!!! She really is looking healthier and not so thin!!!! The glasses are cute. I give you props for even having them on her, if Ryleigh had to wear them, they would be slipping down non stop and I would have to band-aid them to her face because of the lack of nose bridge!

She looks adorable in her new glasses! And the pics with dad and with you are very sweet.

Ahhh, the old Allerton Hotel and its "Tip Top Tap" sign. Brings back memories!

Z looks fabulous! I have a feeling I'm going to totally empathise with your trip into the World of the Uber-Hip. Just the thought makes me feel anxious! Lovely photos.

Do we get to see pictures of this uber chic hotel? I am so curious! You look very happy in the photos...glad to see you smile!

Every time I see pictures of Z I think "she is so beautiful." Today I thought, "and BIG, too!"

She really is beautiful. There just isn't another word. Thanks for sharing the photos.

Oh but she looks soooo cute in her glasses, if only the dang things wouldn't keep slipping down her nose, must drive you nuts.

Have you noticed that they make a difference for Z or is it too early to tell combined with the slipping down the nose thing!

Z really is changing, she is looking so well and strong and engaged.

Of course you and Special K look gorgeous as ever but I need me some E, where is your darling boy.

I can't wait to hear about the swanky pants hotel.

Z. really does look wonderful...very chic.

My brother got glsses at 2. I am two years older, and naively thought I would never have to wear them. That was true until I was a whopping 9 years old.

Z. has your family's enduring, fierce love. And while that's not everything and certain realities still suck, it's certainly not nothing. I thnink glasses will be a blip on her radar.

Oh! I miss you guys already! [*sob!*]

Glad you enjoyed Chicago. It's my favorite city :) Wish we could have chatted more...I had many questions for you. Now I'll just have to continue to stalk you online. Heh.

Cute pics! Z. looks wise beyond her years in those glasses.

I have such a soft spot for babies in glasses. My brother wore the cutest little thick rimmed black glasses when he was a baby earning him the nickname Clark Kent . It has been aboug 31 years since the glasses were retired but we still call him Clark. I know they are probably a major pain in the butt but they are so sweet looking!

She's so adorable in those glasses! Has she been sitting and staring at stuff a lot? I know someone who got glasses as a baby, and she apparently just sat for ages looking at her hands. So neat!

A piece of information you might find useful for Z. A friend of mine discovered that a piece of surgical tubing does a good job of holding glasses on. You cut an appropriate sized piece and slip the earpieces in the holes in the end of the tubing. With the right size tubing, the earpieces stay in and the tubing is stretchy enough you can take the glasses off and on, and the tubing around the back of the neck holds the glasses on.

Z is beautiful in her new specs! I love the pic of the two of you together the best. I wish I could have been there to meet you and see that smile in person. Oh, and my family would have been equally goopy at the swanky hotel. Ha!

you should dress Z up like harry potter for Halloween. Between the glasses and the hair I almost did a double take on the first pic. Very geeky-cute.

Posted by: jess at July 25, 2006 1:32 AM

She looks so serious!!! I love them. I think she looks fantastic. I can't say that I can make the Harry Potter or geeky-cute connection. His glasses have really dark rims. Although well-intentioned I'm sure, that doesn't sound terribly complimentary at first.

Let's go with "friggin' adorable" or maybe even "If I could, I would eat that child"

Oh those glasses! That is beautiful on her!!!

Does she seem to be getting used to the world behind them?
