Despite my best efforts to the contrary I actually like speech therapy. Not just in theory, but in practice too. Perhaps it is because Z. has already made progress after 3 sessions. She has not only learned a new sign (juice) but she is more verbal and seems to enjoy her time with Miss R. Perhaps it is because the therapist is going to help with feeding issues too. We can use all the help we can get. Z. has decided since her surgery that eating isn't so hot and she needn't try and then just for good measure she might decide to vomit two days in a row to keep us on our toes. Perhaps it's because our 30 visits per year for OT and PT combined are running low and the insurance company has already said no to more visits so we have to fight with them about it but we have 26 more glorious visits for speech and so no worries.
Whatever it is, I'm going to enjoy the honeymoon. I've been mourning the 3 therapy sessions per week for the last 3 weeks and I'm still not thrilled with the new schedule. In fact I am feeling mostly downtrodden between the hectic schedule and the d#@!%?/n insurance company and the fact that we need to install yet another new kitchen floor. Did I mention that K. is away right now and also traveling next week? Aye it's all a bit much to manage some days but I know that in time it will be just regular old life.
Did I neglect to tell you that last night Z. shoved an entire mini-fudge stripe cookie in her mouth all by herself? Why was it again that I decided that chocolate would not be motivating for her? K. and I almost climbed on top of the house to shout to the neighbors in our joy we were so thrilled. Instead I ran to get the camera but by the time I took the 3 seconds to get to the dining room table and back she had ejected the cookie and was smearing it all over her clothing. What a girl!
Posted by grrlTravels at August 15, 2006 10:07 PMI love those photos! Especially the ones of K. holding up Z, and that little smile on E's face.
Insurance company woes suck big time.
Our speech therapist turned out to be the best thing that ever happened to us (both in terms of CG's therapy progress and in terms of us keeping our sanity amidst the medical whirlarounds--which were admittedly a little more slowmoving than yours). And I well remember the first time CG ever put a whole anything in her mouth. Yay Z!

Posted by: baggage at August 16, 2006 10:56 AMGreat pictures. I didn't imagine all of those smiles when you described the boat. Yay for the cookie and for Miss R! I hope things continue in a positive direction!
Posted by: Heather at August 16, 2006 11:30 AMOh Amy, your family is beautiful and Z. has the loveliest smile. Great to hear the good news!
Posted by: Katie J at August 16, 2006 3:38 PMThe boating smiles were from the third trip out. By the third trip the trauma of the choppiness was mostly abated.
Posted by: Amy/grrlTravels at August 16, 2006 4:22 PMSo much to be excited about. I practically want to shout from MY roof about the cookie. Go Z! Enjoy your progress Amy, you've more than earned a good week!

Posted by: Sarah at August 17, 2006 2:19 PMDumpling was peaking over my shoulder at dinner time when I was first reading this entry 6 hours ago, took one look at Z. and proclaimed "Same" and she didn't mean chinese, she meant same top! and then she looked at E and told me "That *MY* friend... One Time, eat with monkeys with me!" And she was right, on both counts!
Posted by: mortimersmom at August 17, 2006 11:25 PMYou have a beautiful family. That picture of your hubby "catching" Z. may just be the most beautiful picture ever.
