I'm nothing if not loyal

Tonight at dinner when K. said, "Are you crying over Netscape?" and I answered yes in my wobbliest voice you might assume that it was a new low in PMS-induced binge crying.

Yes, I'm one of 3 people who still use Netscape and no I'm not ashamed. I still have a raging 90s I-Hate-Bill-Gates- and-Micr0s0ft-and-Will-Do-Everything- n-My-Power-to-Thwart-Their-Plans-for-World-Domination mentality. Despite the fact that we have run a mostly Micr0s0ft shop for years and despite the fact that I use many MS programs given the choice I will still choose whatever isn't MS whenever possible. That is why I use Eudora for my email and Netscape for my browsing. I know. I'm a dinosaur. A dinosaur who is fighting the Trojan War in the 21th century. I can't help it.

However the Netscape leaks today were not BillGatesMicrosoft-induced. You see back in the day when I actually worked on projects and contributed to our company in a meaningful way I used Netscape for my HTML work because it was less forgiving than IE and so you could find your mistakes more quickly. And then I had two kids and my office, my lovely office, became a dusty museum filled with odd artifacts of my old life. The Very Important Issues That Must Be Resolved Immediately morphed into incomprehensible scribbly notes on random bits of paper.

I was busy enough that I wasn't all that sad about the office and the company and life all surging forward without me unless I came abruptly face-to-face with my desk. There was also a short time between finally adjusting to life with E. and the arrival of Z. where we had a babysitter and I was able to sit at my desk every once in a while.

But I knew deep in my heart that my days were numbered. Yesterday K. told me that my office was to be mine no more. We needed the space and unlike other attacks upon my workplace stronghold it was obvious that this time my office was, well, already no longer my office.

So tonight. Tonight at dinner I was telling K. that either my computer was going wacky or my Netscape was not working properly. K. proceeded to tell me that Firefox was the way to go and why was I still using Netscape because no one uses Netscape any more and that's what I get for hanging on so long without budging and no one wanted to help me with my dumb Netscape issues anyway and besides What Was I Thinking. So I cried.

I cried over my Netscape and my previous life and my office and the bits of paper and the little red message light on my phone that blink blink blinks forever on my desk that is no longer my desk.

That is sucky. I still use Netscape, for the same reasons. I have actually downloaded Firefox. It has two problems:
1. For whatever reason it shows no (as in not even icons)graphics.
2. I cannot find a way to import bookmarks. How would I live without my bookmarks?

Also I am getting fed up with Yahoo but what do you do as an alternative to Yahoo which holds everything you use?

I think you need at least a cubby office -- some corner that has a drop down desk or something. Because you are still in there and you can't give up everything. Do you know they make ice cream that is called ice cream sandwiches and has all those soft chocolatey cookie parts. Just saying.

Oh Amy...so it has happened and all in one night?! No more Netscape AND now no office? I am particularly sorry about the loss of your office (as I have never used Netscape and already use Firefox - thanks to all the guys at work telling me that was the way to go a while back). It is a symbolic loss and change in your life. At least you always had that space to call your own.

oooh, I have that hate too, and the perfect answer: Mozilla! It is the bestest. :-)
